Paranormal Women's Fiction?

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

Isn't that paranormal romance or urban fantasy?

Yes and no and so, so much more!

First and foremost, PWF (Paranormal Women's Fiction) features Generation X women as the main character. And we all know GenX is the absolute best generation ever, right? Instead of gifting magic to the young folks (who were eating Tide Pods just the other day) PWF grants magic to women old enough to know what to do with it.

These kick-ass heroines are here to stay!

It's time to step aside, dear Buffy. You too Prue, Piper, and Phoebe. We will always love you, but it's our time now. The kids are grown (or darn close to it) the husbands are playing golf, or decided to have their mid-life crisis, and we've been left to our own devices. What else would a bunch of gorgeous peri-menopausal GenX women do besides find their magic and save the world? Or at least their own neighborhoods.

Say no more - show me the books!

The first book in my new series, Midlife Magic & Magnolias, will be out in early April. Until then, grab your wands and a cup of your favorite elixir and feast your eyes on these amazing PWF books!

Midlife Bounty Hunter - Shannon Mayer

I discovered Shannon Mayer through her Desert Cursed series and I have to say I am a true fan of her writing! When I first read Witch's Reign I immediately texted one of my closest writing friends and said, "This book could be a lesson on plotting and tension." When you pick up a Shannon Mayer book, be ready for a ride!

One day I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real.

The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter- than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah . . . and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert.

I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date.

At forty-one, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me.

When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it—I need the money more than I care about my sanity.

It’s dangerous.

I have to embrace the magic and dark of my past.

And I need Advil to keep me going.

But those who’d hold me back better sit up and take notice, because a new woman is in town, and she’s not about to be counted out by anyone.

Even if she does groan when she rolls out of bed in the morning.

Magical Midlife Madness - K. F. Breene

K. F. Breene's first installment in her Leveling Up series was my introduction to PWF. Obviously, I immediately fell in love. I hope you will too!

A woman starting over. A new house with an unexpected twist. A cape wearing butler acting as the world's worst life coach.

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that's exactly what my life becomes.

Do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I'm ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could've imagined.

Thankfully forty isn't too old to start an adventure, because that's exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

It's a Wonderful Midlife Crisis - Robyn Peterman

I can't lie - I cracked up out loud at this book's opening scene. I don't want to ruin it for you, but if you've made it this far I'm assuming you're both a fan of the supernatural and a true GenXer...which means you've probably seen The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox. It totally reminded me of this poor elderly ghost and his jaw (which I've thought of many times over the years as a TMJ sufferer). It's a fantastic read!

Whoever said life begins at forty must have been heavily medicated, drunk, or delusional.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good.

But as they say, all good things come to an end. I’d honestly love to know who ’they’ are and rip them a new one.

One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed and breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job—deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there. I think they need my help, but since I don’t speak dead, we’re having a few issues.

To add to the heap of trouble, there’s a new dangerously smokin’ hot lawyer at the firm who won't stop giving me the eye. My BFF is

thrilled with her new frozen face, thanks to her plastic surgeon, her alimony check, and the miracle of Botox. And then there’s the little conundrum that I’m becoming way too attached to my ghostly squatters… Like Cher, I'd like to turn back time. Now.

No can do.

Whatever. I have wine, good friends, and an industrial sized box of superglue. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything, apparently.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful midlife crisis…
